I don’t know if any of my readers have noticed the new tab you can click on above [next to my about me], but I am now accepting questions for an Ask Nina column [not a column but close enough]. Its actually 11:54 but I was really eager to blog about this, so please forgive me for blogging a little too early! [honestly I know all I’m doing after this is SAT work and the thought is not at all appealing].
I hadn’t received any questions yet [possibly because you can barley read that there is a new tab with my new design? OH do you like the new design? I love it except for the fact you can’t read some REALLY important things] so I thought I’d go on a website I love called, gurl.com and look through their website’s discussion panel for a question worth answering.
If a Christian kills themselves do they go to hell? A lot of people i know think that. Where does it say that in scripture?
January 13 2009 was the day a friend of mine had committed suicide, I wish I could have said or done anything to have changed what happened, but I can’t. For a long time I too wondered, would this great, loving, incredible girl go to hell because the pains in her life were too great to bear, because she took away her own life before it was God’s time. That’s actually why I picked this question out, I want an answer for myself as well as for you.
At one point I ignored the question because I was SO afraid of what the answer may be. I know that God is the ultimate judge of who will and will not go to heaven but based on the bible this is what I learned.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)
This verse had led me to believe that because killing yourself was a sin because our bodies belong to GOD, that suicide was sin, as I went online I saw different arguments. [I’m not an expert on this matter and don’t claim to be, I’m just trying to answer your question as best as I can! 🙂 ]
According to Exodus 20:13, we are not allowed to murder, I had always considered suicide as murder, except of yourself. In addition to this suicide is a sin that you cannot repent for because well you’d be dead [not to be blunt]. BUT another website had said that when the commandment says, thou shall not kill, it was a commandment TOWARDS other people, not yourself. The website argue that because of this “…Therefore, applying such laws “against yourself” makes no sense.”
In all honesty I cannot give you a yes or no answer [I WISH I could!]. The bible is completely open to interpretation and you could argue both points. However, based on what I know of the two arguments because our bodies belong to God and because it is a sin, people who commit suicide do not go to heaven. [keep in mind, GOD ultimately chooses]
I really wish that wasn’t the case, and a part of me still hopes for my friend’s behalf but based on the scripture this is what I could find. Tell me if you want more verses or even reading about the topic, I’ll look for it for you!
Hope this helps,
